In gearing up for our first major trade show at the Seaport World Trade Center, we've reached back out to our long time friend and consultant on graphics Chris Marston at Stonefish Workshop.

Stonefish Workshop is a graphic design studio located in the heart of Portland, Maine.

ABOUT STONEFISH WORKSHOP

Specializing in graphic design and branding solutions for large and small businesses, our goal is to help your business stand out amongst your competition. Whether you're in need of a logo, marketing materials, or help building a brand from the ground up we're here to help.
Stonefish Workshop Facebook
We have worked with Chris for several years on multiple projects, including our logo design, as sole practitioners who branched off from a large firm in Boston to start their own companies.

We know the capabilities and craftsmanship that Chris brings to the table as well as his creative approach to graphic design which we highly value.

Being able to think outside the box beyond simple graphics and bring a greater perspective as to what the graphic is attempting to accomplish is one of Chris's greatest attributes.

We can only imagine this might have been in part due to the integrated approach in a past firm linking both graphics department and marketing.

SO WHAT IS NEXT?

In addition to an advertisement banner that will be hosted on the New England Home Show's website for the 2016 spring event in Boston, we will be collaborating on the backdrop to our exhibit.

Given the volume of about 30,000 that attend the event as well as potentially participating in future home trade shows across New England, we trust a collaborative effort working remotely with Chris will result in a stunning visual to hopefully draw visitors to the trade show to our booth.

Structural Expertise from Apex Engineering

We connected with Scott Orlowski, president of Apex Engineering located in Rochester, MA through a mutual contact. The general contractor recommended Scott for structural engineering and we were impressed after our initial meeting.

Scott has opened his firm over 5 years ago during the economic downturn and still managed to keep the work flowing to support the growth of the company.

A member of BNI South Coast in New Bedford, MA which is a Business Networking International group with a local ties to support the growth and development of business in the area. Scott is heavily involved in the successful networking and expansion of his structural engineering trade.

SOMEONE YOU CAN TRUST

Scott's experience in projects from bridge design to residential houses makes him a great asset for us to rely on for more complex structural load calculations.

We have coordinated closely with Apex Engineering to develop framing plans on a non-profit dormitory addition listed as our Featured Commercial project.

As we continue to look forward at future projects, we expect to utilize Scott's expertise for structural design.

Although the demand for his services is pretty high and the turn around time is a variable, we coordinate with him closely to ensure any deadline, permit submission, or progress set of plans is well organized to keep your project on track.
Apex Engineering Portfolio
We primarily focus on residential design but also feature small scale commercial projects that can often times actually be easier from a structural standpoint than the residential homes.

Apex Engineering has a nice balance of both to be able to serve the needs of 8TFive Studio as an ongoing consultant for future projects.

Washburn Construction in New Bedford, MA

We have dealt with Dan Washburn from Washburn Construction on our Featured Residential project in East Freetown, MA. As well as a long-time friend, Dan has the industry experience and quality of craftsmanship that you really look for in a good general contractor.

Make no mistake about it, one of the most important aspects to any new construction or remodel is who you select for your contractor. You should never base your selection off price alone. As the old saying goings "you get what you pay for"

We've worked with several local contractors in the Southern Massachusetts area since starting our firm, which you can find out more About Us. Quality, Service, Craftsmanship, Price, Responsiveness and Reliability are just a few pieces to the puzzle that should be considered when interviewing and selecting your general contractor.

REAL QUALITY GENERAL CONTRACTING

One thing we relied on during the construction of the new home in East Freetown was Dan's ability to bring a creative and experienced eye to the design during construction. At the time we had yet to transition over to working on 8TFive Studio projects full-time and therefore only had spare time enough to develop the concepts, layout and overall design development. But construction detailing we left open for collaboration during the construction process and Washburn Construction delivered.

One example was the second floor bathroom. During construction we realized the layout would need to be altered. Well after a few on-site visits to workout the possibilities we developed a plan together that would ultimately work well.

Dan was always available by phone and willing to assist in any questions post-occupancy.

The level of service in your general contractor is equally as important as the quality of work.

The last thing you want and we've heard stories, is a general contractor starting a job and not finishing it. Better yet, finishing it but not following up on ensuring the quality of the work performed on your project.

Who wants a leaky roof on an addition you just paid to have constructed? Some contractors might give you the run around to fix it.

Hence, the early selection process is key.

MAKE SURE YOU SELECT THE RIGHT CONTRACTOR

One aspect to the Services we provide, as well as other architects, is assisting you in interviewing, making recommendations and even being by your side during the bidding and negotiations.

The design and drafting part of the project is the less stressful and more exciting phase. During construction you'll run into the unknown variables for what exists in the walls and floors.

You can also expect delays from city approvals, material shipments, subcontractor scheduling, and several more regardless of who your general contractor is.

But ensuring you select the right one for your project is important to your satisfaction and hopefully stress-free construction process. Washburn Construction is one we would happily refer you to.
